President and Chief Executive Officer

Carl is a Denver native and 1972 graduate of Mullen High School. His undergraduate degree was earned in 1976 and graduate degree was obtained in 1976. For twenty-five years, he worked in the family's Denver business, Ambulance Service Company, which was the largest private Colorado company when the business was sold in 1992. Carl was a certified paramedic and served as the company CEO when the business was sold. Carl worked served as the CEO of the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation in Denver for almost ten years until 2012 when he was appointed the CEO position of Mullen High School on July 26, 2012. He has served on several nonprofit boards in the Denver community and the Mountain States Bank Board for twelve years until 2006 when the bank was sold. He has served on the Mullen High School 2000 Capital Campaign, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees. Carl is married to Sandy. They were married in 1979. Their daughters are Mullen graduates: Serena, Class of 1999 and Carissa, Class of 2001. Both daughters are married. Carissa has two sons, Theodore, born in 2013 and Duncan, born in 2015

Mrs. Janell Kloosterman ext. 3300

Principal and Chief Academic Officer
Janell has spent her entire professional career dedicated to the students of Mullen High School. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Fort Lewis College, Janell began student teaching at Mullen in 1991. She then secured a teaching position, and began actively engaging in other leadership roles, including the Director of Activities, Director of Service Learning and Director of the De La Salle Program. She advanced to the Assistant Principal of Academics before being promoted to Principal and Chief Academic Officer in 2012. Along the way Janell successfully earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Regis University and was officially named an Affiliate of the Christian Brothers in 2014, a prestigious honor granted to lay-persons who have committed their lives to the mission of the Christian Brothers. In her spare time, Janell enjoys reading, exercising, traveling and spending time with her husband of 26 years, Todd. Together they have two daughters, Abigail and Sophie.

Assistant Principal - Academics
Joe Locascio has been a member of the Mullen faculty since 2000 and has served as an English teacher, the Dean of Instruction and the Assistant Principal for Academics.


Dr. Mary Beth Porter ext. 3364

Assistant Principal - Curriculum and Instruction

Betsy is a Colorado native. She began her career in science receiving a BS in Microbiology from the Univesity of Notre Dame in 1984 and a Doctoral Degree in Molecular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine in 1990. She worked as a research scientist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle for several years before staying home with her children. While her children were young, Betsy loved being at home with them, eventually moved back to Colorado and received a Master's of Theological Studies from Madonna University in 2005. She began teaching at Mullen that same year as a theology and occassional science teacher. Betsy was Theology Department Chair for several years. She became the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction in 2015. Today she continues as Assitant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and as a member of the Theology Department, primarily teaching Bioethics. Mullen has been an amazing place to teach and grow as a person. She feels especially blessed to be in a Catholic, Lasallian environment that is both academic and strongly relational.
