Colorado State Champions: 2001, 2006 (Class 4A)

Welcome to the girls tennis home page. The sport for Colorado girls was first instituted in 1970 and officially sanctioned with team championships in 1975. It has turned into an exclusive club. Mullen has won two state championships and stands fourth. Cherry Creek has won a leading 35 times, Cheyenne Mountain 22 and Kent Denver 5. Mullen is tied with Niwot, the 2018 Class 4A winner, for fourth with two titles. Eight others have each won one championship, making it a short list of only 13 schools to take a title. Mullen competes in 4A and was third a yera ago.

Jera Sturgell

In her third season leading Mustangs girls tennis, Sturgell is a Colorado native. A graduate of nearby Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, where she lettered in gymnastics, she went on to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and earned a degree in psychology with an emphasis in early-childhood development. Sturgell has multiple years of experience working with school-aged kids in the Jefferson County District. She also has additional experience coaching tennis and gymnastics on the prep level – she did so at Jeffco’s Columbine in Littleton.
