Brady, Reister, Hawes lead way in 20-team field.

Mullen revisited the site of the past season’s Class 4A Championship on Monday.

Competing at the Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs, the Mustangs finished fourth as a team in the Cheyenne Mountain Invitational. They totaled 320. Fellow Centennial League members Arapahoe (285, first) and Cherry Creek (301, third) also were in the 20-team field. Host Cheyenne Mountain was second (295).

A year ago, Mullen was 4A Colorado runner-up at the picturesque layout with confounding greens and NORAD in the mountain background.

Individually, the Mustangs used a tight group of Ryan Brady, Brodie Reister and Jack Newton for the majority of their scoring.

Brady, a sophomore who recently fired a terrific 68, turned in a team-best 77. He made the turn of the 36-51--71, 7,056-yard layout in 40, then came home in 37. He made three birdies, two on the back side, as he tied for 14th.

Reister matched his best score to date in 2021 (78). He began with a 37, including two of his three birdies, before the senior finished in 41 to tie for 17th with Newton, who went 38-40 with a birdie on the front side.

Ben Hawes tied for 43rd at 87 and Ethan Karr tied for 45th at 88.

A busy Mullen will play in another tournament today (Aug. 31), this one at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora – the 14-team Strasburg Invitational. First tee shots will be at 8 a.m.
