'Stangs move to 3-0

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Mullen equals half of last year's victory total in just 3 matches
Three games into the 2019 season, Mullen has already equaled half of its victory total from a year ago.

The Mustangs jumped to a big halftime lead before rolling Class 5A and visiting Lakewood of Jefferson County 6-1 on Thursday in nonleague.

Now 3-0, Mullen also has outscored its opposition by an aggregate 17-2.

Senior Kaylah Wanna sparked a 4-0 lead halfway through the match by scoring all three of her goals. Alexandra Deorio, Jade Garcia and Anna Seaman also found the back of the net. Wanna completed her big day with two assists as did Jaime DeBerardinis. Sophie Axley and Shelby Colbert also assisted as Mullen is enjoying balance early in the season.

The Mustangs’ barrage also came through 18 shots on goal, six by Wanna.

As keeper, Mullen’s Emma Ryan continued to do her part.

4A Mullen will be idle until April 2, when it will return from next week’s spring break and begin play in the 5A-based Centennial League. The Mustangs will be at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village.
