Mustangs take down SkyView Academy to open 2019
HIGHLANDS RANCH – Mullen opened its season on Tuesday with a big bang, beating up on host SkyView Academy 6-0 in nonleague action.

The Mustangs scored three times in each half, led by senior Macy Clem, who previously had opted exclusively for academy play. She scored twice.

Additional goals were by freshman Lauren Creighton, junior Anna Riddle, sophomore Anna Seaman and senior Kaylah Wanna.

Wanna had a productive opener as she also contributed two assists as did Jaime DeBerardinis, another senior and academy player joining the team. Senior Shelby Colbert and Seaman also registered assists.

Mullen, which made it into the Class 4A bracket a year ago and opened by taking down defending Colorado champion D’Evelyn, generated 15 shots on goal.

The Mustangs keeper, junior Anna Ryan, enjoyed sound play in front of her as teammates allowed only two shots on goal.

Home opener for Mullen will be Tuesday, March 19, against Denver’s George Washington, 4:30 p.m. The Mustangs will have another home match two days later, against Jefferson County’s Lakewood, also with a first ball at 4:30. And then they will be idle until after spring break, when they will begin Centennial League play on April 2 at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village, a night match (6 o’clock) at the Stutler Bowl.
