0-1-1 in weekend play

Heritage loss; tie with Kent.
LITTLETON – Mullen had to settle for a point in back-to-back home games this weekend at The Edge.
On Friday, the Mustangs were handled in a 5-2 loss to Heritage and came back on Saturday to rally for a 4-4 tie against Kent Denver.
Both games were in the Highlands Conference. The Mustangs are 8-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in conference.
The loss to Heritage, which ended a 4-1 stretch, came after Mullen had taken a 2-1 lead. However, the Mustangs, who were outshot 45-24, gave up the next four goals. All told, three of the Eagles scores came on the power play.
Nick Gilbert scored both goals for Mullen. Assists came from Aidan Cashman and Hunter Kear.
In the tie with the Sun Devils, the Mustangs overcame two deficits and couldn’t hold a 4-3 lead.
Utah Bryant and Nick Gilbert scored in the second period to forge a 2-2 tie and goals in the third period by Alex Hertlein and Larry Simons gave Mullen a 4-3 lead before Kent Denver got the equalizer at 16:05.
Mullen outshot Kent Denver 31-28.
Simons (two), Kear and Bryant had the assists for the Mustangs.
Junior Connor Mahon was in goal for both games.
Mullen will be at Rampart on Monday at Sertich Arena in Colorado Springs, 7:55 p.m.
