Mustangs climb to 4-1 before holiday break.

Strong showing is encouraging.
An energized Mullen will head into the holiday break at 4-1 with a chance for its best mark in years.
Behind Robby Witwer’s hat trick, the Mustangs pounded Palmer 10-5 on Saturday in nonconference play at Sertich Arena in Colorado Springs.
After dropping their opener, the Mustangs have won four straight games, their best stretch since going 6-0-1 late in the 2012-13 season.
Witwer scored the final two goals of the first period as Mullen grabbed a 5-1 lead. The Mustangs basically traded goals with the Terrors the rest of the way and it was enough.
Nick Gilbert added two goals. Truman Boettiger, Utah Bryant, Eoin Canavan, Ian McDougall and Ashton Smaldone each had one. The Mustangs also piled up 11 assists. Again, Witwer and Gilbert were at the front with two apiece. Hunter Kear had two and John Baird, Coleman Guthrie, Bryant, Smaldone and Larry Simons also got into the act.
In goal, Dominic Maurais and Hunter Mahon handled and shared things with Maurais getting the victory.
Mullen was outshot 12-9 in the first period before taking a 34-20 advantage for the game.
The game also was relatively penalty-free – there were just five power-play opportunities.
Mullen will next be in action on Friday, Jan. 4., at The Edge against Columbine. The Rebels beat the Mustangs 3-2 in the opener.
