Grandview pummels 'Stangs

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Wolves win big, 17-2.
It wasn’t what they expected or wanted.

It also was difficult to take and watch, but Mullen’s 17-2 home loss in six innings on Saturday to Grandview in Centennial League play at Bill Swift Field was real and the Mustangs have to deal with it.

Their fourth loss in five games dropped them to 9-7 overall, 3-5 in league.

“I don’t have much to say,” an upset head coach Nick Arcuri said.

Mullen used three pitchers who were rocked for 16 hits and eight walks. The Wolves (8-8, 7-2) also blew it open by scoring 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning and sending 16 batters to the plate.

The Mustangs had only one hit through five innings and four of their safeties came an inning later by pinch-hitters who were able to plate the two runs and avoid the shutout. Cameron Brickley doubled to knock in a run and Jayden Mayoral singled in another run.

With another series of inclement weather looming Monday to Wednesday, Mullen’s upcoming three-game week could prove interesting – it is scheduled to be at Grandview in Aurora on Tuesday, 4:15 p.m., and have a home-and-away with Smoky Hill, Thursday in Aurora, 4:15 p.m., and Saturday at home, 11 a.m.
