Spring '19: 3rd coach in 3 years

Nick Arcuri now in command.
Turnover continues for Mullen baseball at the top – the Mustangs have their third program leader in three years.

But it isn’t making Nick Arcuri blink. The new Mustangs head coach has 42 years in the game and seems convinced about this year’s group.

“I think we can play,” he said.

A program that was 18-22 over the past two seasons, including 8-12 a year ago, and been a first-round playoff victim from 2017-18, has made some necessary changes, notably in the weight room. Arcuri said no less than five Mustangs pitchers are throwing in the 80-plus miles per hour.

“We’re bigger, stronger and all-around better,” he said.

Jack Vitry, Evan Malloy, Brennen Nolte, Will Miller, Alec Elges, Michael Stanford, A.J. Naha and Trevor Moore are some of the names Mustangs followers will need to know as the season progresses.

The Mullen schedule also will include a trip to Phoenix before embarking on a Centennial League slate.
Arcuri will be looking for improvement.

“We have a shot,” he said.
