Early into her schoolgirl career, Mullen freshman Sofia Choi is bidding to establish her name among the sport’s elite.

Choi shot a 3-over-par 74 on Wednesday at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora to win her first foray into a Centennial League tournament and the first suburban league gathering of the spring.

Going 38-36, Choi had two birdies on each side and edged Grandview’s Morgan Ryan by a shot and Eaglecrest’s Emma Brant, who won the Class 5A Colorado title a year ago, by three.

The Mustangs’ Paige Sowitch, a junior, shot 91 and Elle Deorio, a sophomore, came home in 108. Junior Meagan Compton shot 113.

Earlier this season, Choi finished first in her debut as a schoolgirl.

On Tuesday, the Mustangs had their first 18-hole tournament, participating in the Grandview Invitational at Heritage Eagle Bend, also in Aurora. It was a gross-score event as well as a best-ball format involving teams.

Sowitch was 18th with an 88. Next were: Meagan Compton, 58th, 116; Hannah Giacomin, 62nd, 117; and Peyton Zeman, 71st, 120. Sowitch also chipped in for a par and deposited a sand shot for birdie.

Mullen was 13th among teams with 321. In best ball, Sowitch-Compton had 87 and Giacomin-Zeman had 116.
