Mustangs take opener

GOLDEN – Mullen girls lacrosse got the spring season rolling on Friday.

The Mustangs downed host Golden 18-12 in nonleague, their first reported result of the third season during the annual sports year.
Emerson Johnson and Molly Gilbert led the way. Johnson, a senior, scored seven goals and added an assist, and Gilbert, a sophomore, added six goals and an assist to account for the bulk of the scoring.

Senior Grace Archibald had three goals and two assists, and a couple of newcomers, freshmen Charlie Beck and Haley Vanek, each got on the board with a goal and an assist.

Senior Izzy Cisneros faced 23 shots and came up with 11 saves.

The Mustangs were able to generate 28 shots on goal.

Next up for Mullen is another nonleague match on Wednesday, March 13, at touted Denver East.
