MBN Roundup: Spring sports

Clem scores 3 times in grl soccer.
Behind a hat trick by senior Macy Clem, girls soccer handled Dakota Ridge 3-1 at Lakewood Memorial Field on Friday in nonleague play.
The visiting Mustangs won their sixth match in a row and are 10-1-1.

Clem, who has signed with Alabama, handled all of the scores, each assisted by a different teammate – Sophie Axley, Anna Seaman and Kaylah Wanna provided the helpers.

With four of the Mustangs’ 10 shots on goal, Clem upped her season goal total to 11. Wanna is tops at 17.

Keeper Emma Ryan again stood tall, recording six saves.

Class 4A Mullen heads into the final week of the regular season facing three road matches, two nonleague (at Northridge on Tuesday, 6 p.m.,  and Friday at Brighton, 7:30 p.m.) wrapped around the biggie, vs. defending 5A state and Centennial champion Grandview on Wednesday, 8 p.m., at the Stutler Bowl in Greenwood Village.

Grandview is 10-2-1 overall, 5-0-1 in league, so a Mullen (4-1-1) victory would clinch at least a tie with the Wolves and possibly include Cherry Creek, which is 3-1-1 into the weekend.

Girls tennis completed its regular-season schedule with a 6-1 victory at Columbine in nonleague.

Lauren Manwiller (No. 1), Mikayla Phelps (No. 2) and Megan Sandy (No. 3) swept in singles; Jordan Cleary-Bella Wallrath (No. 1), Chloe Golenzer-

Tierney Scanlan (No. 3) and Brooklyn Hanley-Parker Durand (No. 4) won in doubles.
The Mustangs were 8-3 in dual meets, 5-2 in the Centennial.

Next is hosting a 4A regional on Wednesday, although there are weather concerns (aren’t there always?).

And in girls lacrosse, the Mustangs, like their boy counterparts, blanked Overland, this one by 21-0 at Brother Bernard Kinneavy Field at De La Salle Stadium.

Mullen won its fifth match in a row and is 8-5 overall, 5-1 in the Centennial.

The Mustangs ran to an 11-2 halftime lead and had five players score, topped once again by Molly Gilbert and Emerson Johnson, who each scored four goals. Elise Bialecki scored three times and Olivia Moreno and Haley Vanek each had two.

Goalie Izzy Cisneros turned in seven saves and benefitted as Mullen came up with 23 shots on goal.

With a mathematical chance at the league title, Mullen also is in the running for second or third. The Mustangs enter the regular season’s final week
with back-to-back matches, Tuesday at Eaglecrest, 4:30 p.m., in league and Wednesday at home vs. Cheyenne Mountain, 6 p.m.
