Spring '19: Mustangs in swim of things

Season ready to go.
It is a numbers game for Mullen boys swimming and diving, a lower one, specifically quality over quantity.

In 2018, the Mustangs had 19 swimmers, yet took third at the Class 4A meet held at the Air Force Academy and set two school marks.

In 2019, it could be more of the same.

Head coach Susan Stone cautions that there are only 14 swimmers (and no divers) on this season’s team and it may have a slow start as multiple competitors will be participating in some high-end club meets, but there are five returning state-meet swimmers who could lead the way to another high finish.

Look for Noah Maestas, Will Chavez, Charlie Baker, Cameron Smooke and Ben Freeman (including co-opers from Colorado Academy) to make most of the splashes. Plus, Stone said watch for freshman Austin Linn.

The Mustangs will be pointing to the Coaches and Smoky Hill invitationals to solidify and prep for the stretch run.

“We’re looking forward to them and I think we have some good kids,” said Stone, who’s coming off a successful girls season in which the Mustangs finished fourth.
