Lasallian Days of Peace
On Saturday, our Lasallian world begins a deep and important time of reflection on peace. So often in the course of the days at school - in the lives of our students and faculty and staff and for myself - I know that peace would benefit us. I know that peace would renew us. Our world is in need of that renewal and in need of peace. Please join us over the next month dedicating moments of your lives to peace. You can learn more HERE.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
First Trimester Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019. This is a Half Day of school for students and no lunch will be served.
We welcome everyone to come and meet with your students’ teachers! Conferences will be held in the Hutch and, in order to allow time for all families to access their students’ teachers, they will be limited to five minutes per student. Conferences will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. followed by a 5:00 p.m. -6:30 p.m. session.
Second Trimester Parent/Teacher Conferences will be organized in the same manner at the same time and will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020.
In recent years, attendance at Third Trimester Parent/Teacher Conferences has been limited and we are, administratively, considering their utility and if the format for Third Tri should be changed in some fashion. We will make a determination and publicize our conclusions well in advance of their scheduled date of Friday, April 17, 2020.

On the Road
Next week, Dr. Cardenas and I will be in San Diego for the fall District Chief Administrators Association Monday - Wednesday. I know. I know. Tough duty. Please say a prayer for us and for the group of presidents and principals who will gather in reflection, prayer and conversation about our Lasallian schools.
Valedictorian/Salutatorian Selection Process Changed for Classes of 2022 and 2023
As you may have noted in your review of the 2019-2020 Parent/Student Handbook, Mullen High School has developed a new process for identifying our Valedictorian and Salutatorians beginning with this year’s sophomore class. You can read the full policy in the Handbook, but here is a quick overview:
The Senior Awards Committee will determine the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the graduating class. This committee will be made up of various school constituents and may include administrators, counselors, pastoral representatives, faculty, staff and students. The decision of the Senior Awards Committee will be final. All grade point average criteria for awards will be based on GPA and credits earned toward graduation up through the second trimester of senior year.
Those students with an eleven-trimester cumulative GPA of 4.0 or better are invited to apply for these honors. However, these are not strictly academic awards.
The ideal candidates for both awards will be students who:
- are recognized by the community for general excellence,
- who have an exceptional academic and personal record of achievement at Mullen High School,
- who have shown involvement in and service to the Mullen High School community,
- and who have embodied the 5 Core Principles, the values of Mullen High School and Lasallian education overall.
Special recognition will be given to the students with the highest and second-highest GPAs in the class each year in the form of the Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude Awards respectively.
