Players to watch for Mullen:
7, Wilson Yee, Sr., K-P, 5-11, 175
10, Ben Marcoux, Sr., WR, 5-10, 175
22, Damien Cearns, Sr., RB, 5-11, 184

92, Aidan Keanaaina, Sr., DL-OL, 6-3, 300
Notable: This will be Mullen’s 865th game since first playing in 1936 in the old Parochial League. The Mustangs are 587-259-18 in their history. ...
Mullen is coming off a 43-3 home loss against Columbine, the consensus No.1. The Mustangs were very much in the game at halftime, trailing 14-3, but the Rebels, who also took command up front on both sides, went on a 29-point binge and employed the mercy rule with 8:12 remaining in the fourth quarter. …
On a four-game losing streak, Richardson knows his team has had ample chances to win or at least keep it interesting. “Every game the last four weeks we’ve had every opportunity to be in a dogfight and have it come down to the wire,” he said. “We have to be able to finish.” … Mullen’s only points last week came from a 42-yard field goal by Yee. …
Ralston Valley is one of seven undefeated teams in 5A. … RV, after a 52-26 over Mountain Vista in the season opener, rolled Arvada West 49-7 last week to open the Metro West and has permitted only 27 points over the past five weeks. …
RV’s leading rusher is senior Chase Wilson (6-2, 200), who has 397 yards and includes eight touchdowns. Senior QB Walker Brickle has been productive. He’s 79-of-122 passing for 1,180 yards and 17 TDs, but only three interceptions. …
Senior Kyle Remington returned as Mullen starting QB last week. Freshman Kaleb Valdez-Lemos got his first start in Week 5 vs. Grandview at Legacy Stadium in Aurora.
Next up for Mullen: It will meet Pomona’s Panthers on Friday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., in the Metro West at the NAAC in Arvada.
Coachspeak from Richardson
On his players’ attitude despite a four-game losing streak: “They are very upbeat this week and starting to discover we can do something we haven’t been able to do the last few weeks.”
On his team making adjustments when necessary: “Our guys are focused and the message we sent was to stop the bleeding. When we get into the moment, we need to refocus … if we can stay close, it gives us the best chance.”
On his team’s injury status: “We’re in great shape … (but) Ryan Hearty re-injured his ankle and is out indefinitely.”
