What Our College Counselors Do...
Whether you are the parent of a 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grader, I’d like you to know about the amazing work our College Counseling Team has done already this year. It has processed a total of 1000 transcript requests to over 230 colleges for 180 seniors - that’s 80% of the class!
Parents of seniors likely know that the Colorado Free Application Day was moved two weeks earlier this year, and schools like CU, CSU, and DU added early applicant pools to their processes. Our team of Mrs. Santillo, Mrs. Randa-MacCrea, Mr. O’Rourke and Mrs. Rosengarten essentially had 20% fewer school days to support students in the three most significant tasks we do this time of year: assist with applications, assist with essays, and give pep-talks that everything is going to be ok, and they made it happen! I am very grateful for their critical work on behalf of our students!
Open House Thanks!
Mullen High School had a wonderful Open House this past Sunday, and we are indebted to a number of people. First, Mr. Cawley and Ms. St. John worked so very hard to be sure we were a welcoming presence to the hundreds of families that joined us on campus. Ms. Niblack and her liturgy team planned a terrific Mass which got so crowded that we had to open the “fly wall” at the back of the Chapel to accommodate those who wanted to worship. Mr. Fast, Ms. Miller and their amazing team had the campus looking beautiful. The MPA and so very many parent volunteers were welcoming and gracious, and we couldn’t have done it without them. The faculty and staff were also on hand to explain and show who we are, and I am grateful to them. Finally, however, our best ambassadors were the over 350 students who gave of their time to lead tours and to talk about the school they love. What a wonderful day it was!
Mr. Gray’s Departure
Mr. Elliot Gray, who has been a wonderful teacher at Mullen over the past five years and, for the past two, has been our Service Learning Director has been offered an opportunity close to his home and family that he cannot let pass by and has discerned that he will be leaving Mullen. We are so grateful for the gift of his service to the school and to our students, for his passion for service learning and science, and for the wonderful role model he has been for our school. Currently, members of our science department are teaching his classes, but we will have a full-time teacher in place directly. We will also announce very soon who will take over as Service Learning Director.
We love Mr. Gray, and we will miss him.
