Sumner, Linares head Mustangs grapplers

Mullen is 15th at Flornece Invitational with 2 placers.
 
Mullen finished 15th at the always very good Mel Smith Invite wrestling tournament at Florence on Friday and Saturday.

The Mustangs totaled 75 points. Lamar won the team chase with 175 points to outdistance runner-up Pagosa Springs (160) and third-place Valley (155.5).

There were 32 teams in the field.

Individually, the Mustangs had two placers.

At 152 pounds, senior John Sumner finished second, losing in the final by injury default to Cameron Lucero of Pagosa Springs. Sumner is 25-3 on the season.

And at 120, sophomore Noah Linares was fourth, losing 4-3 to Brandon Boehm of Florence. Linares is 18-5.

Also competing for the Mustangs were: Max Gonzales (14-11), 113; Mark Troni (21-9), 132; Kaleb Valdez-Lemos (15-7), 145; Cole Nading (15-7), 160; and Patrick Grahm (7-9), 170.

Next for Mullen is a Centennial League dual match against Arapahoe on Thursday, Jan. 23, 7 p.m., in the Old Gym.
