Water works: 'Stangs dual with Warriors

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Mullen falls to 5A Arapahoe as the 4A postseason awaits.

Mullen girls swimming and diving lost handily to host and Class 5A power Arapahoe in the Centennial League on Tuesday, 133-49 to complete its dual-meet schedule in the regular season.

The Warriors’ depth, which should keep them in the running again for a high-end finish at the Colorado meet next month, is always a factor, although the 4A Mustangs, ranked second in the middle classification, showed well and are pointing toward their own finish.

Sophomore Chase Davison had another solid meet. She captured the Mustangs’ lone first place, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 8.02 seconds, and joined teams in finishing second in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Mary Macauley had a runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:13.92) as did Rachel Rowland in the 100 backstroke (1:03.86).

Gabrielle Zinis was third in the 500 freestyle (26.09) and Ryan Mady was third in the 100 butterfly (1:20.67).

Macauley, Claire Chabandour, Lindsey Sowitch, Zinis, Claire Mochan, Rowland and Anarose Schwamm also contributed to the relays’ finishes.

The postseason awaits – the League B meet will be on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Smoky Hill in Aurora, and A League on Feb. 7-8 at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village.

The 4A Colorado meet will be Feb. 18-19 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton.
