Mustangs can't get past 4 unanswered goals

LITTLETON – Mullen gave up four unanswered goals on Thursday and dropped a 5-2 decision to Kent Denver in the Highlands Conference at The Edge Ice Arena.

The Mustangs are 6-10 overall, 2-8 in conference. Kent Denver is 6-5-2, 4-4-2.

On even-strength goals by J.C. Carter and Eoin Canavan, Mullen held a 2-1 lead after 17 minutes.
However, the Sun Devils used power-play, shorthanded and even-strength scores in the second period to take command and added a late goal to seal it.

The Mustangs outshot the Sun Devils 36-33, but had only seven to Kent Denver’s 15 in the second period.

Each team was guilty of six infractions and the Mustangs were 0-of-6 on the power play.

Alex Hertlein, Riley Watters, Larry Simons and Robby Witwer had assists for Mullen. Goalie Connor Mahon turned in 28 saves.

Mullen will be at Big Bear on Saturday, Feb. 15, to take on Crested Butte, 3 p.m.
