Returning from Houston
What a terrific four days in Houston this week! Joining over 100 chief administrators from the 55 Lasallian high schools around the United States, Dr. Cardenas and I heard 3 separate keynote speakers, attended a District meeting (and a wonderful dinner with our colleagues from the schools in the San Francisco/New Orleans District) went to breakout sessions (one of which I co-presented) and prayed with, enjoyed fellowship with and laughed with principals and presidents who are dedicated to our same mission. This was truly food for the journey and well timed as we head into the Third Trimester next week.

Third Trimester Begins
And speaking ot the Third Trimester, we begin with a two hour late start on Monday, March 2, 2020. During the morning, teachers will be continuing their preparations and set up for the trimester. Then students will arrive for shorter classes dedicated to sharing of syllabi and class policies. While it’s hard to believe the year has gone so quickly already, you can bet that the pace will only increase from here. Buckle up!

Playoffs!
This is such an exciting time of year and so many of our student athletes and teams are in the midst of playoff runs. I am ever impressed by the work our students put in on the fields and the ice and the courts. That they can do this and balance the demands of their academic schedules is truly inspirational. And that they compete in the Lasallian spirit is an amazing source of pride. Good luck to them. (And, if it’s playoff time for Winter Sports, Spring Sports cannot be far behind…)

The Five Core Principles
One of the many blessings of working at a Lasallian school like ours is living the shared history and community of the broader Lasallian world. Over the course of the next few editions of the  Mullen Weekly, I am going to highlight one of the five Core Principles that we hope to instill in our students and that I hope we are living in our work with them. This week, we continue our conversation with Concern for the Poor and Social Justice.

From the Lasallian District of San Francisco/New Orleans:  “The Lasallian school calls its members to a solidarity with the poor and victims of injustice. It calls all to a life-long commitment to respond to their needs through programs of community service, advocacy, and justice education.’”

In all we do, I hope we live out each of these Core Principles and teach our students to do the same!

Happy end of the Trimester!

One to go!
