The prestigious meet was cancelled and the world’s population is in a pandemic because of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

But it didn’t stop Mullen’s Agur Dwol from being named an All-American in triple jump.

The Mustangs sophomore was honored by the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation and the New Balance National Indoors track and field meet that had been scheduled to be contested at The Armory in New York City the past month.

Dwol, Colorado’s defending Class 4A champion, was one of six chosen in each event.

“I was surprised,” Dwol said. “It shows you hard work pays off.”

Mullen girls track coach Caitlin Able called the selection “great news,” and “even though she didn’t get to compete, she was recognized for her hard work and accomplishments this year. We are extremely proud of her.”

Dwol turned in an effort of 40 feet, 9.5 inches in February at the Air Force Academy meet. She leapt 38-2 the past spring to win the 4A title.

And she has been ranked as high as fourth nationally this year.

Smartly using her quarantine time, Dwol said she is getting some workouts, but also “letting my body rest. I haven’t realty had any time off since the last track season.”

Dwol was named with triple-jumpers Riley Ammenhauser, Illinois; Alissa Braxton, New York; Jordan Hardy, Virginia’ Nadia Saunders, new York; and Morgan Smalls, North Carolina.
