Emergency Remote Learning Week FIVE - Hope Is Not Cancelled

I am incredibly grateful to the community for all the faith and trust in us and our determinations about how we are conducting Emergency Remote Learning. I have heard from many of you about your reactions and questions and I have passed them on to department chairs and the administration. We take your reactions very seriously as you are our best partners in educating your students - especially now!

Today is our first day of Self Directed Learning for our students and faculty and I very much hope it is a day in which time is well spent.

We continue to examine our approaches and will not be afraid to change them to best serve all our students. While I do not want constant change - we have had a lot of change in the last few weeks, we will not hesitate to update our plans as needed.

Timely Updates

The 2020-2021 Work Continues
Though I cannot guarantee a seamless and predictable start to the 2020-2021 school year (And when could one ever “guarantee” such a thing - remember the first day of school and pizza last August, anyone? I do!), work is continuing on next fall. We have been hammering out the school calendar, scheduling students and teachers and determining what learnings from our time away that we might incorporate into our practice next year.

There have been many discoveries in Emergency Remote Learning, some of them very, very good. We will absolutely grow from this disruption in our normal ways of proceeding. We will learn from them and we will have a better, stronger Mullen because of them.

We Are Mullen!
Earlier this week, I received an email from 9th grader Isabel Medina. She wrote “Hello Mr. Howard! I hope you are staying healthy and well during this difficult time. I wrote a poem about the current world wide events, and I wanted to send it to you and was hoping you might put it in the next Mullen Weekly?”

Isa, I am only TOO HAPPY to share your poem and your sentiment and your words!

Thank you for allowing us all to read them!

We Are The Mustangs:
Though progress is slow,
We have pride and Faith to show.
The spirit of our hearts
Continues to stand up tall
Though fear and sickness tries to tear us apart
It will not succeed, not at all
We will overcome with hope and love within each heart

Through this slippery slope
We find new ways to cope
Cause we have each other
Brothers and sisters of God,
One big family as far as i can see
We stand together pridefully
We are Mullen
we are the Mustangs,

So well said, Isa.

I hope you all have wonderful weekends.

Peace,
