Emergency Remote Learning Week EIGHT - Hope Is Not Cancelled
Though I felt a little like a criminal sneaking around in the early morning on Thursday, it was a pleasure to deliver surprise packages to the homes of the Class of 2020! They made it to the last day of classes and we couldn’t be more proud of them! I am grateful to Mrs. Abeyta and the entire Community Life team for coordinating this amazing effort. We are equally indebted to the MPA for their ensuring everyone had a yard sign! If we missed any student, please let us know!
The Class of 2020 moves next to their Drive Through of the school and the planned Graduation Week events in July and I have been so gratified to be with them these last two years. They are forever a part of Mullen High School and we will be talking about this class and this spring and their special place in our hearts for years to come!
We had over 40 faculty and staff members along with parent volunteers taking their Thursday mornings to let this class know how special they are. Frankly, we had more volunteers than we could use! That speaks so well of our amazing community. It is a real example of who we are and how we care.
Our Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen
As we celebrate our seniors, I want to be sure that our 11th, 10th and 9th graders know that we are thinking of them, too, as they approach their last days of class next week. I have been incredibly impressed by their response to our Emergency Remote Learning, how they have taken it in stride and worked as hard as they have. They have had disappointments and have missed seasons and performances and retreats and gatherings and have persevered and have been Mustangs throughout. We cannot wait to see them in the halls at Mullen next fall when it is safe to be together. It brings a smile to my face when I imagine the energy our togetherness brings. The best part of Mullen High School and Lasallian education is relationship. It has been the hardest part about being apart. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors, I can’t wait until we are back together!
Parent Survey
As we conclude our Emergency Remote Learning and begin to look to next year, please watch for an email asking parents to complete a survey about these last weeks. Next year, if we are in a distance posture, it will not be an emergency. We will have plans that respond to the strengths and weaknesses of our approach this past trimester. We’ve already begun surveying our students. Hearing from you will be critical going forward. Please take a moment or two to complete the survey when it comes to you.
Student Retrieval and Drop Off Days
After Memorial Day, we will conduct a series of Student Retrieval and Drop Off Days. Plans for those are all but complete and we will send them out in the coming days. Some students still have material in the buildings and we want them to be able to retrieve it. Additionally, please begin asking your students to get together any Mullen items so that they can drop them off - uniforms, books, supplies that belong to the school and the like. A detailed explanation of the procedure for these days will be coming to you soon.
