Brown officially joins Mustangs athletics

Former in-state running back set to join Mullen as athletic director on Aug. 3; Colorado native "excited" about his new position and opportunities for his student-athletes.

It’s official – Damian Brown is on board as Mullen’s new athletic director.

According to Principal Jeff Howard, the Colorado native and former schoolboy star running back has completed the final touches, including the necessary paperwork, and will begin his new position on Monday, Aug. 3.

“I’m very excited,” Brown said when presented the opportunity to head Mustangs athletics.

Having led Eaglecrest to the 1993 Class 5A (in a 6A system) state title, Brown, an All-Colorado selection as well as offensive player of the year, split time between Iowa State and Northern Colorado. He was involved in business and athletic training before heading back into the schools.

In addition to the Denver District, he spent seven years with Adams City and the Far Northeast Warriors.

Brown also is scheduled to begin on the first day of what is supposed to be the opening of practice for the next school year of fall sports. State officials are due this week to announce plans for sports starting up again or continuing to be on hold. They have been on hiatus since March, when the pandemic of the coronavirus (COVID-19) hit and suspended the end of winter sports as well as the cancellation of all spring sports.
