Mullen boys tennis got off to a decisive start on Saturday.
The Mustangs, competing in the new Season A, rolled visiting Arapahoe 6-1 in the Centennial League. The match was switched from nearby Pinehurst Country Club after a scheduling conflict with the courts.
Seniors Mac Caldwell, George Henry Hanzel and Dante Dino swept at singles for the Mustangs. Caldwell cruised at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-0; Hanzel didn’t lose a game in rolling 6-0, 6-0; and Dino had to work a bit before taking No. 3 with 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 decision.
In doubles, sophomore Jack Barker and senior Greg McMullan won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1; senior Luc Caldwell and sophomore Alex Evans took a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2; and senior Patrick Duke and sophomore Colin Mackenzie won handily 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 3, senior Blake Zaragoza and junior Sean Phelps dropped a tight one, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday (Aug. 17) with an away match at perennial power Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village, 3:45 p.m.

No. 3 doubles --Terwilliger-Maloney (Arapahoe) def. Zaragoza-Phelps (Mullen) 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
No. 4 doubles -- Duke-MacKenzie (Mullen) def. C. Garside-Winslow (Arapahoe) 6-0, 6-1.
