Maggie Bertsch

High-school sports:
Softball and tennis.

What I’ve done lately:
Third baseman had two hits on Thursday, including a run-scoring triple, in a 10-8 victory at Eaglecrest in which the Mustangs halted a three-game slide.
Grade-point average: 4.0.

Class:
Senior.

Why I attend Mullen:
We have kind of a family legacy. All of my cousins went here and now my sister (twin Madelyn) and I go here. It’s a good school. No matter what, ever since middle school I knew I wanted to go to Mullen and everything (the Mustangs) offer here was exactly what I was looking for in a high school.

The best things about my sport:
Personally, I like defense more, I’ve always liked (playing in the field), and the team aspect of it. It’s like having a second family, a second home on the dirt.

In my future:
I’m hoping to go to Colorado School of Mines to study engineering and also play softball.

Pre-Game ritual:
My sister and I go to every game together, so we have our own warmup playlist we listen to on the way there and we get our heads in the right place. I also get dressed the same way -- right sock first, then my left, right shoe first, then left shoe. If it gets mixed up it’s just not going to be a good day.

Favorite college team:
Florida State softball.

Why I play:
So it’s more than just a game. Yeah, it’s fun and good to be around a positive environment. It’s kind of crazy and you never know what it will bring, but softball is a constant in my life and a way to let loose and be myself.
