AURORA -- In wrapping up an abbreviated regular season in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Mullen boys golf turned in a third-place finish in the fifth Centennial League tournament on Wednesday.

Competing at always interesting Murphy Creek Golf Course, the Mustangs, usually led by Mario Dino and Rhett Johnson, were joined at the front by Andrew Brady.

Dino, in turning in 1-over-par 73, tied for third. Brady’s 3-over 75 tied for sixth. Johnson’s 77 tied for 12th.
Dino’s round included five birdies in going 35-38. Brady’s four birdies came over 39-36. And Johnson had three birdies in turning in 37-40.

Freshman Ryan Brady shot 80 and senior Tommy O’Sullivan scored 81.

Teamwise, Mullen’s 305 total trailed only Arapahoe (297) and Cherry Creek (304).

Individually, Eaglecrest’s Andrew White and Arapahoe’s Matthew Wilkinson each shot 1-under 71s.

The Mustangs will turn around quickly for the postseason – on Tuesday, they will be at Quail Dunes Golf Course in Fort Morgan for Class 4A Region 3. First tee times will be at 9 a.m.

“We’re confident and I think we have a real chance at winning,” Johnson said.
