'Stangs win 5th game in succession

Mullen takes down Eaglecrest 59-37, assures best Centennial mark in 11 seasons; finale at home vs. Arapahoe is Saturday.
 
CENTENNIAL – It was another slow start, but Mullen again picked up the pace.

The Mustangs handled host Eaglecrest 59-37 on Thursday night in the Centennial League, winning their fifth consecutive game.

Now 11-2 overall and in league, the Mustangs have clinched their best Centennial record since going 13-1 in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

Head coach Frank Cawley acknowledged the slow start, but said “defensively, we were solid.”

The Mustangs held the Raptors (7-6, 7-6) to single digits in both the first and third quarters, outscoring them by an aggregate 25-7.

Senior Alexa Dominguez, headed to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, scored a game-high and career-high 21 points. She also grabbed her 500th career rebound.

Gracie Gallegos added 12 points and Megan Pohs 10. Pohs also needs 45 points for 1,000 in her career. Junior Imani Perez again offered significant defense and rebounding. Senior Jessica Oates-Stamm added eight points.

Mullen will wrap up its regular season at home at Hutchison Fieldhouse against Arapahoe in a Saturday matinee, tip-off at 2:30 p.m.
