Valdez-Lemos, Antillon push 'Stangs total to 6

On day 2 of regional wrestling, Mullen qualified two more competitors for next weekend’s wrestling championships to bring its total to six.

For boys in Class 3A Region 3 in Bennett on Saturday, Kaleb Valdez-Lemos finished second at 160 pounds. Now 12-3 on the season, the sophomore lost in the final by fall in 1 minute, 34 seconds. Earlier, he advanced through the bracket with a bye, technical fall and major decision.

At 152, senior Jacob Robbins went 2-2 and Hwt. Hayden Woodruff, a sophomore, was 1-2.

For girls in Fort Lupton in Region 1, junior Alina Antillon made it to the final of 136 before falling to Pomona’s Alicen Dillard in a 6-0 decision. Antillon, a two-time state champion, still qualified for the state field and is 10-1 on the season, 61-2 in her career.

On Friday, the Mustangs had Dale O’Blia, Noah Linares and Mark Troni qualify from Bennett and Makenzie Krenz advance from Fort Lupton.

Pairings and schedule for the state tournament to be held in Pueblo this weekend will be released on Sunday.
