Senior point guard goes for 28 points as she surpasses 1,000 for her career and leads the Mustangs to an 89-30 thrashing of Durango in the 1st round of the 4A playoffs.

The long-anticipated Class 4A playoffs are here for Mullen and the Mustangs didn’t disappoint – they rolled Durango 89-30 at Hutchison Fieldhouse in their opener.

It was Mullen’s 10th-consecutive postseason victory, pushing the No. 4 seed to 13-2. The
Demons, seeded 29th, ended 6-9.

A top to the effort came from Megan Pohs, who surpassed the 1,000-point mark in what has been a distinguished career. A three-time all-Centennial League choice and two-time 4A all-state selection, the Regis University signee went for a game-high 28 points, all, on field goals, including six 3-pointers. The point guard had a season-high in points and pushed her career total to 1,001.

Overall, head coach Frank Cawley indicated, “it was a solid defensive effort once again.”

In winning their seventh consecutive game this season, the Mustangs (13-2) held the Demons to single-digit scoring in three of the quarters.

Offensively, Mullen’s outside game returned – and it drilled 11 3-pointers.

For scoring, all 12 players broke into the column. In addition to Pohs, junior Gracie Gallegos added 14 points. Haley Van Horn contributed eight as did junior Kilah Freelon, and Abby Webster had seven.

Mullen will host Canon City on Thursday at The Hutch. The Tigers, the 13th seed and 11-2, outlasted No. 20 Littleton 46-42 on Thursday.
