“Oh, absolutely,” he said. “We had a great year. When you put it all in perspective, it’s one of the best we’ve had in a long time.”

The Mustangs turned in their first winning Centennial League mark (7-6) in 15 years, made the 5A Round of 16 for the second time in three seasons and had their second overall winning mark in three seasons and just the second since 2007-08.

“We really accomplished a lot and played good basketball,” Caton said.

On Thursday, GW, which finished runner-up to East in the DPL, led most of the way before the two teams entered the final 8 minutes tied at 40.

However, the Patriots drilled thee quick baskets for a 46-40 and pulled away to advance to Monday’s Great 8.

“They were so physical,” Caton said of the Pats (11-3).

Senior Sean Berg led Mullen with a career-high 16 points. Senior Brayden Carter, an all-leaguer who also made a case for a high all-state selection, added 12.

“I’m really proud of the kids,” Caton said.
