Thomas selects Firestorm

Mustangs defensive back will sign with NAIA's Arizona Christian.

It’s happening at Arizona Christian University and Brisen Thomas is keenly aware of it.

The Mustangs defensive back committed to the Firestorm on Sunday and will sign on April 14.

“I’m really excited to be a part of it,” he said Monday, a day after announcing his commitment.

Arizona Christian is an NAIA school, 8-1 playing in this new spring season, recently won the Sooner Athletic Conference at 5-0 (its third in six years), is ranked No. 14 nationally and in line for the national championship tournament.

Thomas, a 5-foot-10, 175-pounder, said communication with the school began in November. He was invited for an official visit, took it in January and was offered in the first week of March.

“Location was a big part,” Thomas said. “I wanted to go somewhere warm (the Firestorm moved a couple of years ago to Glendale, Ariz., from Phoenix), the coaching staff is great and they have a really great up-and-coming program.”

Mullen head coach Jeremy Bennett, who recently completed his first year with the Mustangs, said he was proud of Thomas.

Business management will be Thomas’ major.

“I’m really happy,” he said.
