Maffoni, 'Stangs win on road
Senior goes 4-for-4 as 'Stangs rip 13 hits and beat host Eaglecrest 10-2; Mullen moves to 2-1 in the Centennial.
CENTENNIAL – Luca Maffoni went 4-for-4 as Mullen got back on the wining track with a 10-2 road victory at Eaglecrest in the Centennial League.
Mullen is 2-1 overall and in league.
A senior, Maffoni also had two of the Mustangs’ eight extra-base hits, both doubles. He scored three runs and drove home four.
In all, Mullen banged out 13 safeties. Freshman Ben Krza was 2-for3 with a triple and pitcher Henry Stewart, the winner, singled, doubled and had two runs batted in.
Andres Terrones-Garcia, Andrew Brady, Colin MacKenzie and Trevor Moore each doubled.
Stewart levelled his record at 1-1 by going five innings and permitting two runs and two hits.
Mullen will resume play on Saturday in league at home at Bill Swift Field against Cherokee Trail. First pitch will be at 9 a.m. as coaches moved it from 11 in an attempt to avoid forecasted bad weather.
