Gamueda heads list of five Mustangs chosen; Guglielmo is co-coach of the new Season C.

Mullen placed three players on the first team of all-Centennial League boys soccer and head coach Matthew Guglielmo was named co-coach of the year.

The team, released on Thursday, includes five Mustangs as well as Guglielmo.

Senior A.J. Gamueda, a forward; senior defenseman Cole Dempsey; and junior Eli Kerschen, a forward, were named to the first team.

Gamueda and Kerschen tied for the Mullen lead in goals with eight. Dempsey had two scores. Gamueda also topped the team with six assists.

Junior midfielder Andrew DeBerardinis and sophomore defender-forward Andrew Lehman were voted to the second team.

DeBerardinis was third with six goals and added four assists. Lehman contributed three goals and three assists.

Mullen was 8-2 in the new Season C that competed in the spring during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, tied with Grandview for the regular-season league championship at 6-1 in the shortened outlay and led the league with 25 goals in the regular season.

However, the Mustangs, while playing in the Class 5A loop, were not chosen to make the smaller 16-team playoff bracket in 4A.

Gamueda and Dempsey were second and third, respectively, in player-of-the-year voting.

Guglielmo was co-coach with Grandview’s Brian Wood.
