Trevor Moore is player of the year as four Mustangs were named to the Centennial League first team, selections announced recently.

In addition, the Mustangs’ Nick Arcuri was honored as coach of the year for 2021.

A junior committed to Stanford, Moore is joined by Andrew Brady, Chase Brickley and Henry Stewart on the elite league’s first team. Ben Krza is second team.

“I’m pleased,” Arcuri said.

Moore, a pitcher-infielder, batted .385 with three home runs and 15 runs batted in. He won five games on the mound with 43 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. His upside remains large and he’s also the team’s best base-runner.

Brady, a junior left-side infielder, was consistent and came on late to lead the Mustangs in average (.466), runs (23), hits (27), doubles (19) and RBIs (15). A highlight was his two-out, full-count grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first round of regionals to send Mullen to the final.

Brickley, a senior and lanky right-handed starter, also won five games. He topped the team in innings (32.2) and had a 2.14 earned-run average. Brickley also fanned 32 in eight appearances.

Stewart, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder, was a regular leader with a .407 average, 25 hits and 18 RBIs (all second on the team). On the mound, he won three games, including a three-hit shutout on the road.

Krza, a freshman, was a regular from the first game of the season as a catcher. He was sound behind the plate and batted .319 with 15 hits and 14 RBIs.

Arcuri, on the schoolboy baseball scene for more than four decades as well as having had a long career as a police officer and detective, completed his third season (28-15) in command of the program (the Mustangs played just one game in 2020 because of the coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic). The Mustangs finished 14-4 in the new Season D, won 11 games in succession and were within a game of making the Class 5A Championship Series double-elimination rounds.

Mullen also tied with Cherry Creek for the Centennial championship, its first since 2016.
