Mullen will be part of Friday’s swimming and diving championships for Colorado Class 4A to be held at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton.

Just how big will depend on the efforts of seven Mustangs who have qualified under first-year coach Jess Sanford.

“I’m excited,” she said. ”It could go well.”

Following is Mullen’s lineup.

Individuals:

Noah Maestas – 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Noah Mooney – 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle.

Austin Linn – 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

James Galligan – 50 freestyle.

Jack Krza – 200 freestyle.

Relays

200 freestyle – James Galligan, Jack Krza, Austin Linn, Noah Maestas.

200 medley – James Galigan, Austin Linn, Noah Maestas, Noah Mooney.

400 freestyle – Ben Hoody, Jack Krza, Noah Mooney, Louie Roth.

Hoody and Roth are alternates for 200 free and 200 medley relays.

The 200 medley relay group is ranked ninth (1 minute, 41.66 seconds) and clearly “is our best,”Sanford said, and Maestas, who will swim at Seattle, is fourth in both the 200 IM (1:56.72) and 100 breaststroke (57.96).

“We have a lot of top 20 individuals, which is nice,” Sanford said.

Swimming finals will begin at 3 p.m.

In her first season, which began late because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Sanford said “it has been a lot of fun with a small team. I can see it definitely growing as the majority of our team is underclassmen. I feel like with all of them we can continue to grow and grow. It has been challenging, but we’ve managed and given 100 percent.

“I’m excited to see what we’ll do for state.”
