Mustangs end 2-game skid
Mullen beats Cheyenne Mountain 11-5, improves to 3-2.
Bella Aragon had three hits, Mullen scored seven times in the first inning and the Mustangs halted a two-game skid to beat Cheyenne Mountain 11-5 on Thursday.
At Santo “Doc” Scavuzzo Field in 4A nonleague, Mullen improved to 3-2. Cheyenne Mountain is 2-2.
A senior, Aragon had a triple and two singles among Mullen’s eight hits as a team. She added two runs batted in and a stolen base. Elizabeth Brady hit safely and had three RBIs and Cara Newman singled and drove home two.
Ona Medina, who came on in relief, Avery Walters and Cadence Hurtado added hits.
Morgan Margeson notched the victory in the circle.
The Red-Tailed Hawks committed three errors and the Mustangs used them to playe seven unearned runs. They also walked six times.
The game pitted the schools occupying the Nos. 2 (Cheyenne Mountain, 102) and 3 (Mullen 80) spots on Colorado’s all-time list of titles won.
The Mustangs will next host Jefferson County’s Standley Lake on Saturday, first pitch at 10 a.m., another nonleaguer.
