Brady continues solid course play; volleyball falls to rival; boys tennis drops a close one in league.

Ryan Brady shot a 1-over-par 73 on Thursday to lead Mullen to a fourth-place team finish in the latest Centennial League Match.

Competing at Saddle Rock Golf Course in Aurora on a scorching late morning and afternoon in the fourth league match in 2021, Brady, a sophomore, turned in 39-34 with four birdies, two on each side, on the 6,941-yard layout. He was bogey-free coming home.

“I hit the ball really well with my irons and hit a lot of irons off the tee,” he said. “And I drove (No.) 15, which was good.”

It led to a two-putt birdie on the par-4, 369-yard hole.

Brady said he was pleased overall with his round, although “I made a couple of mistakes and could have hit it better.”

Over his previous four rounds, Brady is an aggregate 2-over.

He was backed by junior Ethan Karr and senior Ben Hawes, who each shot 80 to help forge a five-way tie for 17th. Karr went 40-40 with a birdie on 11 and Hawes was 37-43, hindered by a triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 No. 11.

Jack Newton was 24th with an 85 and Brodie Reister 25th with an 86.

Mullen scored 318. Arapahoe won with 274, some 14-under.

The Mustangs will have Centennial Match No. 5 on Monday, Sept. 13, 8 a.m. shotgun start at Littleton G.C., before wrapping up the regular season with their traditional showing in a tournament in Keystone. Hard as it may be to believe, regional rounds will follow shortly, Sept. 25, in Montrose.

The Class 4A state tournament will be Oct. 4-5 at the newly refurbished City Park G.C.
