Cross country competes at Liberty Bell; boys tennis falls to a power.
 
Jack Tolbert and Amy O’Connell headed Mullen interests in Saturday’s Liberty Bell Invitational hosted by Heritage in Littleton.

Competing in the Sweepstakes portion of the race that had multiple fields, Tolbert was 32nd in 16 minutes, 16.20 seconds. He was followed by: 96. Owen McCarter, 17:10.70; 138. Mason Atwell, 18:00.70; 142. Diego Taboada-Cross, 18:10.20; 148. Caleb Belcher, 18:37.00; and 160. Kellen Fischel-Case, 20:03.20.

Mullen was 17th as a team, totaling 447. Valor Christian was first at 53.

There were 160 entrants and the winning time was 15:00.00.

O’Connell was 29th in 18:42.50. She was backed by: 56. Elisa Brear, 19:33.10; 85. Kira Van der Steen, 20:07.70; 124. Alicia Muller, 21:06.00; 125. Octavia Gomez, 21:07.50; 140. Genna Hockin, 21:36.10; and 150. Maddie Sanchez, 22:38.20.

Mullen was 18th as a team, compiling 396. Arapahoe was first at 96.

There were 154 entrants and the winning time was 17:00.40.

Boys tennis

The Mustangs were swept by regular power Cherry Creek 7-0 in a Centennial League dual match on Wednesday.

In winning all matches in straight sets, the Bruins dropped Mullen to 1-3 in duals.

Mullen’s No. 3 doubles team of Noah Wanja-Carlos Pena had the team’s best showing, losing their match 6-3, 6-4.

The Mustangs will resume action on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Cherokee Trail in Aurora, 4 p.m.
