Softball drops league opener; 'Stangs 4th in final Centennial golf; Kerschen's hat trick keeps 4A top-ranked soccer undefeated.

In its Centennial League softball opener on Monday, Mullen dropped a 4-0 home decision to Grandview at Santo “Doc” Scavuzzo Field.

The Class 4A Mustangs are 7-5 overall, 0-1 in league. 5A Grandview is 6-6, 1-0.

Morgan Margeson took the loss in the circle for the Mustangs, but pitched well enough to keep her team in the game – she was touched for 10 hits, but all were singles, and the Wolves stole six bases.

However, Mullen struggled offensively, fanning 14 times and managing just five hits. Three were by senior outfielder Bella Aragon, who was a perfect 3-for-3, and added a stolen base, her 20th, first on the team and third in 4A.

Elizabeth Brady had a double and Margeson singled. The Mustangs also stranded six runners.

The Wolves struck for two runs in the first inning and plated insurance scores in the sixth and seventh.

In a four-game week, Mullen will visit Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village on Tuesday, Sept. 14, first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
