Now on the tee ... Mullen in 4A

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Mustangs set for 2 rounds of the Class 4A tourney to be held at the new City Park Golf Course.

The annual equivalent of the schoolboy major is here for Mullen and the site is convenient as well as historic.

The Mustangs will compete on Monday-Tuesday in the Class 4A portion of the Colorado season-ending tournament at City Park Golf Course, the urban track recently refurbished, located in old Denver and, perhaps most important, local and close.

Head coach Jerry Koehler, in favor of not having to travel, said he especially likes the idea that the Mustangs and others in the field don’t have to deal with a layout overly familiar to teams within the class and have a chance to make their current mark at a course established in 1913 and in its first full season post-makeover.

The field will include 15 teams, including Mullen, as well as 4A individuals.

The Mustangs will be represented by Ryan Brady, Ben Hawes, Ethan Karr and Jack Newton.

Monday Tee times, all on No 10: Brady, 8:45 a.m.; Karr, 9:54; Newton, 10:03, and Hawes, 10:12 a.m.

Throughout regular play, Mullen was in the middle of the pack in the 5A-vbased Centennial League and was solid in Montrose in regional rounds, missing the top spot in the field by a stroke and nailing the second and final team berth by a stroke.

Brady has been Mullen’s most-consistent player since play opened in August.

There will two rounds of medal play over the 36 holes and three players’ scores count in the team chase.

A year ago in Colorado Springs, Mullen was second as a team and had the runner-up and third-place finishers.
