Boys soccer keeps rolling; softball skid continues; boys tennis wraps up regular season and is headed to 4A regionals.

The Mustangs moved to 10-1 overall on Monday with a 6-1 whipping of Smoky Hill in Aurora in the Centennial League.

Head coach Matt Degitis realized his team didn’t play that well despite taking a 4-1 halftime lead, but they got the job done,” he said.

Andrew DeBerardinis scored three goals for Mullen, one on a penalty kick. Ethan Lehman, Eli Kerschen and Nolan Cooper each added one.

To date, Mullen, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, has outscored its opposition by a combined 59-4. Both totals lead the 5A-based Centennial.

SOFTBALL

The Mustangs suffered their 10th consecutive loss on Monday, 17-6 at home against Cherokee Trail in the Centennial.

Mullen is 7-14 overall, 0-10 in league.

The Mustangs never led and were guilty of five errors, leading to six unearned runs.

Bella Aragon and Ona Medina each had two hits for the Mustangs, both of Medina’s were doubles. Aragon also scored twice.

Boys Tennis

The Mustangs were eighth as a team in the Ralston Valley Tournament held Saturday.

Jack Barker, No. 1 singles, and Patty Duke, No. 2 singles, led the Mustangs by finishing runners-up at their spots.

The tournament completed the regular season for Mullen. Next is Region 3 on Wednesday, Oct. 6, and –Thursday, Oct. 7, if necessary, at Mullen and Pinehurst Country Club.

The Mustangs will be joined by Conifer, Discovery Canyon, Evergreen, George Washington, Littleton and Northfield.

Two spots at each of the seven singles and doubles positions will advance to the 4A Colorado tournament to be held Oct. 14-16 at Pueblo City Park.
