Softball loses to Eaglecrest; boys tennis swinging at a state appearance; and volleyball levels its Centennial League mark.
 
CENTENNIAL – Mullen lost to Eaglecrest 14-2 on Wednesday, a road game in the Centennial League.

The Mustangs dipped to 7-15 overall, 0-11 in league.

Bella Aragon, Morgan Stewart, Elizabeth Brady and Ona Medina each hit safely for Mullen. Aragon and courtesy runner Leah Linares scored. Brady and Medina had the runs batted in.

Errors again plagued the Mustangs, who were guilty of four that led to 10 unearned runs.

Mullen will wrap up its regular season on Friday at home at Santo “Doc” Scavuzzo Field against Arapahoe in league. It will be Senior Day, festivities to begin at 4 p.m.

Boys Tennis

On Wednesday, the Mustangs began working toward advancing their entire team to the 4A Colorado tournament in Pueblo.

On campus and at nearby Pinehurst Country Club, Mullen hosted one of Class 4A’s eight regionals and advanced to the finals in five of the seven spots – Nos. 2-3 singles and Nos. 2-4 doubles.

Here are the team points to date: Mullen 47, George Washington 39, Evergreen 38, Littleton 18, Discovery Canyon 17, Conifer and Northfield 0.

Finals and playbacks will begin in the morning.

Two entries at each of the three singles and four doubles will advance.

A year ago, the Mustangs were second as a team and notched the No. 2 singles champion.
 
Volleyball

On Tuesday, Mullen swept host Overland in Aurora in the Centennial League.

The Mustangs won 25-14, 25-12, 25-22.

They are 8-5 overall, 2-2 in league.

Cherokee Trail will visit Mullen at Hutchison Fieldhouse on Thursday, Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m., in league.
