Mullen in a scoreless tie

Mustangs earn a 0-0 draw in league on the road at Cherokee Trail; Arapahoe is next.

AURORA -- On the coldest night of the season, there were 100 minutes played, a bunch of chances, frequent misses and a lot of running … but no goals.

Mullen played Cherokee Trail to a 0-0 draw on a frigid Tuesday night at Legacy Stadium, a Centennial League match that put the Mustangs at 10-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in league, and Cherokee Trail at 10-1-2, 2-1-2, both near the top of a crowded league race.

Still, Mullen head coach Matt Degitis said, “it’s a good result for us. We played good football.”

The Mustangs’ best chance to score came in the first few exchanges, he said, “but “we just weren’t there to tap it in. We missed our chance and just couldn’t find it tonight. But that’s OK.”

Mullen owned a lot of the play and covered when necessary. Degitis credited the team’s back line of Braden Boh, Cody and Nate Muir, Eddie Roth and Leo Aguilar for being strong in front of keeper Andrew McGrath, who “had a stellar game.”

Next for Mullen is a home match in league on Thursday, Oct. 14, against Eaglecrest, 4:30 p.m.
