Jack Tolbert, Student-Athlete of the Week

High school sports:
Cross country and track (800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters).

What I’ve done lately:
Won the Arvada West Invitational. “It’s truly a great feeling being able to put all of the pieces together and the work finally paid off in front of a lot of people. It’s really a great feeling.” Also finished second in the Centennial League Championships.

Grade-point average:
3.9.

Class:
Senior.

Why I attend Mullen:
I would say it’s definitely the community tnat brought me here. I really enjoy the people I surround myself with and I think they better me as a person.

The best thing about my sport:
I think that it’s how much it pays off (in distance running). It may not be fun at the moment, but when you finally accomplish goals you set for yourself, it’s truly rewarding.

In my future:
Running in college, it would be ideal. I’d like to be somewhere in California. Major will be business/finance.

Pre-Game ritual:
I always tie my left shoe first. It’s something I’ve always done.

Favorite college team:
Track-wise, the Oregon Ducks.

Why I run:
I’d say it’s definitely a way for me to challenge myself and ask myself how badly I want something. I really like that it’s personal. It’s me against myself out there, I’m running against myself.
