Allison Brown now heads girls swimming and diving; season opens next month.

Allison Brown has lived near Mullen and heard the accolades.

Now, she will get to experience them.

Brown has been named Mullen girls swimming and diving coach for the upcoming winter season that will open preseason drills next month.

Having resided near the Mustangs campus at Hampden Avenue and Lowell Boulevard, Brown said she has had “friends at Mullen and it’s just a prestigious school and its athletes are on a whole different level. I’ve always liked that.”

An amputee for more than five years, Brown is a 2007 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, where she commuted to other Denver Prep League schools in a co-op situation to compete in swimming and lacrosse. She also played golf.

She attended Metro State and Arapahoe Community College, and plans to return to school.

As a coach, she has experience on the prep level at Denver South and TJ, and has coached for Denver Parks and Recreation for 16 years.

“We’re excited to have Allison Brown as our new girls swimming and diving coach,” Mustangs interim Athletic Director and Director of Sports Medicine Joey Mahmood said. “We think she has the skills to lead our girls and direct a great program.”

Said Brown: “Mullen produces just a different level of athlete and a different level of person. The athletics and values are always what I’ve about the school.”

The first day of winter sports for 2021-22 is Nov. 15.
