Andrew Brady selects Mines

Senior infielder commits to Golden's high-academic institution; 'Stangs' team leader in several offensive categories 'is relieved' and will sign on Nov. 10.

With an eye toward his future, Andrew Brady has committed to Colorado School of Mines baseball.

Mines officials, the Mullen senior said, “gave me a good offer and that, combined with the great academics, just felt like it would set me up for the rest of my life.”

The Mustangs infielder said he will sign with Mines on Nov. 10.

As a junior, Brady led the Mustangs in batting average (.466), runs (23), hits (27), doubles (nine) and runs batted in (19). He also belted a grand slam in the first round of regionals as Mullen, which tied for the Centennial League Championship, advanced to the second round of Class 5A Regionals and came within a game of making the big-school Championship Series.

Brady moved between shortstop and third base for Mullen, but said Mines coaches “pretty much told me they recruited me as an infielder, but also feel I can play outfield, too. So they said freshman or senior, the best players will play.”

Said new Mullen head coach Phil Stanford: “It’s a good place for Andrew.”

To date, Brady joins senior teammates Trevor Moore (Stanford) and Henry Stewart (Santa Clara) in commitments.

With a 4.1 grade-point average, Brady said his major will be in a branch of engineering.

And he said it’s like a load has been lifted off his chest.

“I’m pretty relieved, it feels good,” he said. “Finally. I don’t have to stress about it anymore and I am glad I can just focus on the Mullen season now.

“No more showcases out of state, glad I don’t have to go to (Arizona, Florida or Georgia).”
