'Stangs headed to Kansas

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Mullen one of 22 teams in Overland Park for Blue Valley NW Husky Invitational; latest OTM rankings.

Mullen will have eight entrants wrestling out of state this weekend.
The Mustangs will compete in the 2022 version of the Blue Valley Northwest Husky Invitational in Overland Park, Kan., a 22-team field representing four states.
Undefeated in dual meets this season, the Mustangs also have made lots of mat noise in other larger, tougher gatherings, notably the annual Jimmy John’s holiday tournament in Greeley and a couple of others in Colorado Springs and Florence.
Mullen is led by defending Class 3A 106-pound champion and undefeated Dale O’Blia, a sophomore; Gilbert Antillon (113), another sophomore; seniors Noah Linares (132) and Mark Troni (160); and junior Kaleb Valdez-Lemos (170). The Mustangs also have been working to develop additional depth.

In Overland Park, Mullen will go against an interesting, unfamiliar field – Andover, Kan.; Blue Valley, Kan.; Blue Valley North, Kan.; Blue Valley West, Kan.; Bonner Springs, Kan.; Heritage of Littleton; Hutchinson, Kan.; Jayhawk Linn, Kan.; Lawrence, Kan.; Lawrence Free State, Kan.; Leavenworth, Kan.; Lincoln College Prep, Kan.; Maize, Kan.; Marion, Iowa; Olathe, East, Kan.; Olathe Northwest, Kan.; Shawnee Mission South, Kan.; Shawnee Mission West, Kan.; Topeka Seaman, Kan.; and Turner, Kan.
It is a Friday-Saturday schedule with 32-competitor brackets.

Also, On The Mat rankings for Mullen remained the same --  Mustangs, first as a team; O'Blia and Troni, top-ranked; Linares and Valdez-Lemos ,second; and Antillon, fourth.
