'Stangs plate 7 late runs to win on the road; boys lacrosse falls in California.
 
BROOMFIELD – Mullen plated seven runs over the final two nnings on Wednesday in taking a 10-8 road decision over Broomfield in Class 5A nonleague.

The Mustangs, unranked in the big-school preseason poll, moved to 3-0.

In coming from behind three times, Mullen banged out 10 hits and used four pitchers in taking advantage of three Eagles errors to score four unearned runs.

Freshman Thomas Stewart drove home three runs. Sage Hurley and Colin Mackenzie each had two RBIs.

MacKenzie was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. And Stewart was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Owen Marsh scored two runs.

Sage Hurley, MacKenzie, Henry Stewart and Thomas Stewart each doubled. Hurley, Ben Krza, Ryan Jackson and Trevor Moore also hi safely.

Henry Stewart also picked up the victory in relief on the mound.

The game was moved up to 3 p.m. in order to avoid the incoming inclement weather.

Mullen will be idle until Thursday, March 24, when it will visit parochial-rival and 5A No. 3 Regis Jesuit in Aurora. First pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.

The Mustangs dropped their second consecutive match to open 2022, losing 8-5 to Poway, Calif.

In California, Mullen next will face off against Santa Fe Christian of Solana Beach, Calif., on Friday, March 18, at 2 p.m.
