FORT COLLINS – Mullen used two big innings on Saturday to handle host Fossil Ridge 10-0 in six innings.

The nonleague victory moved the Mustangs to 4-1 a couple of days following their setback to rival Regis Jesuit. Head coach Phil Stanford said he was pleased with his team’s response and no negative carryover.

After a four-run second inning, Mullen put it away early with a six-run sixth.

Senior Trevor Moore was 3-for-3 for a second consecutive game, also contributing two runs scored and two runs batted in. To date, he is 12-for-18 (.667). Moore and Sage Hurley each tripled. Colin MacKenzie had two hits and scored twice, and Thomas Stewart singled twice and drove home two.

In addition, Andrew Brady singled and scored. Ryan Brady and Owen Marsh both singled, scored and added RBIs. And Dom Gamueda did likewise in also providing two RBIs to cap a 12-hit attack.

On the mound, Henry Stewart was touched for only one hit and walked four, but Stanford agreed he was never in serious trouble. Freshman Thomas Stewart finished, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Combined with Marsh’s relief effort the past Thursday, Mullen pitchers are working on nine consecutive shutout innings.
